A Year of Quick Writes

One year ago, I decided to come back to this blog.  I’d created it in May of 2015, but it wasn’t until October when I really started working at it.  I started the daily Quick Write section, which forced me to think about my writing every single day.  I had to get some words on the page, even if it was just a few short three lines.  It helped jump-start my writing that had sort of fallen to the wayside since coming to Chicago.

And then the rest just kinda fell into place along the way.  Since then, I’ve added book reviews, short pieces of fiction, and gained some loyal followers (who I hope enjoy reading my stuff!).  It’s been an exciting year.

To add to all of this, I’m currently working on a novel with the hopes of finishing its next draft by December.  I’ve set up a strict writing schedule and I hope to devote most of my daily writing to completing this project.   I’m really excited to see how it turns out.  Really excited.

But because of this, here comes some bad news:  today’s quick write is my last.

Don’t totally freak out, though.  I’m just stopping the quick writes.  I’ll continue to add short fiction to my Portfolio tab as I see fit and book reviews will continue to pop up each week, now that I’ve finally finished Madame Bovary.  Maybe some surprises will appear in my Random Cool Stuff tab, too.  I don’t know.  I just know that as I work on this novel, these three liners are no longer going to be useful to add to my writing chops.  One year has been enough, and I have to expand to actual, substantial, potentially-publishable-someday-maybe writing.  Right now, that’s coming in novel form.

So, that’s it.  It’s been a year of Quick Writes, and now this year will be a year of other writing stuff.  Thanks for sticking with me!

P.S. – I’m thinking about journaling my writing process on here, as a sort of replacement to the quick writes.  Book reviews on Mondays and Weekly Writing Recaps on Thursdays or something.  I don’t know yet.  Like I said, some surprises will probably appear.  We’ll see.
